unsafe_[get|put]_user: change interface to use a error target label
When I initially added the unsafe_[get|put]_user() helpers in commit 5b24a7a2aa20 ("Add 'unsafe' user access functions for batched
accesses"), I made the mistake of modeling the interface on our
traditional __[get|put]_user() functions, which return zero on success,
or -EFAULT on failure.
That interface is fairly easy to use, but it's actually fairly nasty for
good code generation, since it essentially forces the caller to check
the error value for each access.
In particular, since the error handling is already internally
implemented with an exception handler, and we already use "asm goto" for
various other things, we could fairly easily make the error cases just
jump directly to an error label instead, and avoid the need for explicit
checking after each operation.
So switch the interface to pass in an error label, rather than checking
the error value in the caller. Best do it now before we start growing
more users (the signal handling code in particular would be a good place
to use the new interface).
So rather than
if (unsafe_get_user(x, ptr))
... handle error ..
the interface is now
unsafe_get_user(x, ptr, label);
where an error during the user mode fetch will now just cause a jump to
'label' in the caller.
Right now the actual _implementation_ of this all still ends up being a
"if (err) goto label", and does not take advantage of any exception
label tricks, but for "unsafe_put_user()" in particular it should be
fairly straightforward to convert to using the exception table model.
Note that "unsafe_get_user()" is much harder to convert to a clever
exception table model, because current versions of gcc do not allow the
use of "asm goto" (for the exception) with output values (for the actual
value to be fetched). But that is hopefully not a limitation in the
long term.
[ Also note that it might be a good idea to switch unsafe_get_user() to
actually _return_ the value it fetches from user space, but this
commit only changes the error handling semantics ]

printk: Remove unnecessary #ifdef CONFIG_PRINTK
In commit 874f9c7da9a4 ("printk: create pr_<level> functions"), new
pr_level defines were added to printk.c.
These new defines are guarded by an #ifdef CONFIG_PRINTK - however,
there is already a surrounding #ifdef CONFIG_PRINTK starting a lot
earlier in line 249 which means the newly introduced #ifdef is
unnecessary.
Let's remove it to avoid confusion.

Commit abf545484d31 changed it from an 'rw' flags type to the

care about whether it's a read or a write at that level, just
pass in a bool 'is_write' parameter instead.

"This is the second part of the XFS updates for this merge cycle, and
contains the new reverse block mapping feature for XFS.
Reverse mapping allows us to track the owner of a specific block on
disk precisely. It is implemented as a set of btrees (one per
allocation group) that track the owners of allocated extents.
Effectively it is a "used space tree" that is updated when we allocate
or free extents. i.e. it is coherent with the free space btrees we
already maintain and never overlaps with them.
This reverse mapping infrastructure is the building block of several
upcoming features - reflink, copy-on-write data, dedupe, online
metadata and data scrubbing, highly accurate bad sector/data loss
reporting to users, and significantly improved reconstruction of
damaged and corrupted filesystems. There's a lot of new stuff coming
along in the next couple of cycles,a nd it all builds in the rmap
infrastructure.
As such, it's a huge chunk of new code with new on-disk format
features and internal infrastructure. It warns at mount time as an
experimental feature and that it may eat data (as we do with all new
on-disk features until they stabilise). We have not released
userspace suport for it yet - userspace support currently requires
download from Darrick's xfsprogs repo and build from source, so the
access to this feature is really developer/tester only at this point.
Initial userspace support will be released at the same time kernel
with this code in it is released.
The new rmap enabled code regresses 3 xfstests - all are ENOSPC
related corner cases, one of which Darrick posted a fix for a few
hours ago. The other two are fixed by infrastructure that is part of
the upcoming reflink patchset. This new ENOSPC infrastructure
requires a on-disk format tweak required to keep mount times in
check - we need to keep an on-disk count of allocated rmapbt blocks so
we don't have to scan the entire btrees at mount time to count them.
This is currently being tested and will be part of the fixes sent in
the next week or two so users will not be exposed to this change"

ramoops: use persistent_ram_free() instead of kfree() for freeing prz
persistent_ram_zone(=prz) structures are allocated by persistent_ram_new(),
which includes vmap() or ioremap(). But they are currently freed by
kfree(). This uses persistent_ram_free() for correct this asymmetry usage.
Instead of a ramoops-specific node, use a child node of /reserved-memory.
This requires that of_platform_device_create() be explicitly called
for the node, though, since "/reserved-memory" does not have its own
"compatible" property.

ntb_test: Add a selftest script for the NTB subsystem
This script automates testing doorbells, scratchpads and memory windows

ntb_perf: clear link_is_up flag when the link goes down.
When the link goes down, the link_is_up flag did not return to
false. This could have caused some subtle corner case bugs
when the link goes up and down quickly.
Once that was fixed, there was found to be a race if the link was
brought down then immediately up. The link_cleanup work would
occasionally be scheduled after the next link up event. This would
cancel the link_work that was supposed to occur and leave ntb_perf
in an unusable state.
To fix this we get rid of the link_cleanup work and put the actions
directly in the link_down event.

ntb_tool: Add link status and files to debugfs
In order to more successfully script with ntb_tool it's useful to
have a link file to check the link status so that the script

This commit adds a 'link' file to the debugfs directory which reads
boolean (Y or N) depending on the link status. Writing to the file
change the link state using ntb_link_enable or ntb_link_disable.
A 'link_event' file is also provided so an application can block until
the link changes to the desired state. If the user writes a 1, it will

ntb_tool: Postpone memory window initialization for the user
In order to make the interface closer to the raw NTB API, this commit
changes memory windows so they are not initialized on link up.
Instead, the 'peer_trans*' debugfs files are introduced. When read,
they return information provided by ntb_mw_get_range. When written,
they create a buffer and initialize the memory window. The
value written is taken as the requested size of the buffer (which
is then rounded for alignment). Writing a value of zero frees the buffer
and tears down the memory window translation. The 'peer_mw*' file is
only created once the memory window translation is setup by the user.
Additionally, it was noticed that the read and write functions for the
'peer_mw*' files should have checked for a NULL pointer.

ntb_perf: Improve thread handling to increase robustness
This commit accomplishes a few things:
1) Properly prevent multiple sets of threads from running at once using
a mutex. Lots of race issues existed with the thread_cleanup.
2) The mutex allows us to ensure that threads are finished before
tearing down the device or module.
3) Don't use kthread_stop when the threads can exit by themselves, as
this is counter-indicated by the kthread_create documentation. Threads
now wait for kthread_stop to occur.
4) Writing to the run file now blocks until the threads are complete.
The test can then be safely interrupted by a SIGINT.
Also, while I was at it:
5) debugfs_run_write shouldn't return 0 in the early check cases as this
could cause debugfs_run_write to loop undesirably.

This defconfig is intended not to be specific to a particular board;
it enables drivers for all currently-supported hardware, and should be
updated to include additional drivers as they are added.
sh: use common clock framework with device tree boards
Enable common clk framework for DT-based boards and disable code that
depends on the legacy sh clk framework when common clk is enabled.
Once legacy drivers are converted over, the old code can be removed
entirely.

sh: add SMP support for J2
Support is hooked up via a cpu start method specified in the device
tree, and also depends on DT nodes that describe the interfaces for
performing IPI and identifying which cpu execution is taking place on.
The currently used method is a form of spin table, where secondary
cpus are unblocked by writing to a special address.
Rich Felker [Mon, 15 Feb 2016 18:32:31 +0000 (18:32 +0000)]
sh: SMP support for SH2 entry.S
The SH2 version of entry.S uses global variables, which need to be
cpu-local in order to work with SMP. For ease of access from asm,
simply use arrays indexed by cpu number, and require the availability
of an address (mmio register or properly setup per-cpu memory) from
which the current cpu's index can be read.
sh: add AT_HWCAP flag for J-Core cas.l instruction
The J-Core cpu has, as an ISA extension, an atomic compare-and-swap
instruction cas.l which applications need to use (instead the imask or
gusa atomic models, which are fundamentally limited to UP) for
synchronization in order to be compatible with SMP systems. Provide a
hwcap flag so that it's possible to do runtime selection and support
both.
Rich Felker [Thu, 17 Mar 2016 23:09:37 +0000 (23:09 +0000)]
sh: add support for J-Core J2 processor
At the CPU/ISA level, the J2 is compatible with SH-2, and thus the
changes to add J2 support build on existing SH-2 support. However, J2
does not duplicate the memory-mapped SH-2 features like the cache
interface. Instead, the cache interfaces is described in the device
tree, and new code is added to be able to access the flat device tree
at early boot before it is unflattened.
Support is also added for receiving interrupts on trap numbers in the
range 16 to 31, since the J-Core aic1 interrupt controller generates
these traps. This range was unused but nominally for hardware
exceptions on SH-2, and a few values in this range were used for
exceptions on SH-2A, but SH-2A has its own version of the relevant
code.
No individual cpu subtypes are added for J2 since the intent moving
forward is to represent SoCs with device tree rather than as
hard-coded subtypes in the kernel. The CPU_SUBTYPE_J2 Kconfig item
exists only to fit into the existing cpu selection mechanism until it
is overhauled.
ACPI / hotplug / PCI: Runtime resume bridges before bus rescans
If a PCI bridge (or PCIe port) that is runtime-suspended gets an ACPI
hotplug notification, such as a bus check, it has to be resumed before
re-scanning the devices below it, or those devices will not be
accessible and will be treated as hot-removed.
Make that happen and let the bridge suspend again after the bus below it
has been re-scanned.
This is a replacement for commit 16468c783cb4 ("ACPI / hotplug / PCI:
Runtime resume bridge before rescan") that has been reverted, because it
introduced a system resume regression (due to missing bridge->pci_dev
checks that are necessary in case the notification is targeted at the
host bridge) and it is necessary for the code added by commit 006d44e49a25 ("PCI: Add runtime PM support for PCIe ports") to work as
expected.

vfs_{create,mkdir,mknod} each begin with a call to may_create(), which
returns EEXIST if the object already exists.
This check is therefore unnecessary.
(In the NFSv2 case, nfsd_proc_create also has such a check. Contrary to
RFC 1094, our code seems to believe that a CREATE of an existing file
should succeed. I'm leaving that behavior alone.)

nfsd: reorganize nfsd_create
There's some odd logic in nfsd_create() that allows it to be called with
the parent directory either locked or unlocked. The only already-locked
caller is NFSv2's nfsd_proc_create(). It's less confusing to split out
the unlocked case into a separate function which the NFSv2 code can call
directly.
Also fix some comments while we're here.

nfsd: check d_can_lookup in fh_verify of directories
Create and other nfsd ops generally assume we can call lookup_one_len on
inodes with S_IFDIR set. Al says that this assumption isn't true in
general, though it should be for the filesystem objects nfsd sees.
Add a check just to make sure our assumption isn't violated.
Remove a couple checks for i_op->lookup in create code.

nfsd: remove redundant zero-length check from create
lookup_one_len already has this check.
The only effect of this patch is to return access instead of perm in the
0-length-filename case. I actually prefer nfserr_perm (or _inval?), but
I doubt anyone cares.
The isdotent check seems redundant too, but I worry that some client
might actually care about that strange nfserr_exist error.
